In a bid to create a truly authentic Polo experience for Residents of the Federal Capital Territory Abuja (FCTA); the Management of Sheraton Abuja Hotel recently partnered with Guards Polo Club for the 2015 International Polo Tournament.
The 5 Day Event witnessed a huge turnout of the Crème de la Crème, other VIPs, Top Range global and National Polo Players as well as Polo Enthusiasts from the expatriate community and various agencies.
The Deputy General Manager of Sheraton Abuja Hotel-Mr. Emad Rizk tossed the Symbolic Coin Signalling the Commencement of the game on the first day in the midst of Polo players on grand horses.
Notable Dignitaries and Captains of Industries from various sectors of the economy graced the event, which include Chairman Nigeria Senators Forum Senator Khairat Abdul-Razaq Gwadabe, the Managing Director / CEO of Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation Alhaji Umar Ibrahim, The General Manager of Fidelity Bank Plc. Mr Hassan Iman, The Kano State Commissioner for Finance-Alhaji Abdullahi Gaya, The Chairman of the Abuja Polo Club Senator Kabir Jibril, Captain Akin Shutomi, Ali Palala, The Chairman of the Tournament Organising Committee-Mr. Bem Garba and the Tournament Manager Mr Aliyu Umar amongst others.
The profile of the tournament gained considerable panache with the arrival of one of the World’s most renowned Polo Players-Mr. Fernando Bourdieu.
Fernando actively participated with remarkable displays of Polo expertise which brought cheers and loud applause from spectators.
Sheraton Abuja Hotel hosted the 200 VIP’s invited, the Hotel provided the Hospitality Deck at the event alongside Complimentary food for the refreshment of guests and participants.
Invited guests were equally opportune to participate in the Special Raffle Draws which had Interesting Prizes such as Complimentary Stays in all Starwood Hotels in Nigeria (Sheraton Lagos Hotel, Four Points by Sheraton Lagos, Sheraton Abuja Hotel, Le Meridian Ogeyi Place Port Harcourt, Le Meridien Ibom Hotel & Golf Resort). The Star Prize was a Weekend Stay for two at the Prestigious Presidential Suite of the Sheraton Abuja Hotel.
The fifth day grand finale was full of activity as the Sheraton Abuja Hotel Team led by the General Manager Mr Boris Bornman officially tossed the Symbolic Coin Signalling the Commencement of the Final Game played on Sunday May 17th 2015.
Various trophies and medals adorned the field as the crowds anticipation became heightened with expectations of which team would clinch the cup.
The Area Director of Marketing for Starwood Hotels Nigeria Mrs Lola Banjo and Deputy General Manager of Sheraton Abuja Hotel Mr Rizk Emad took time to intimate the Guests about the Expansions of the Hotel Chain in Nigeria, while the Area Communications Manager for Starwood Hotels in Nigeria Engaged Guests on the recent activities and packages of the Hotel in her continuous quest to meeting the Hospitality and Culinary needs of Nigerians and Foreigners who reside or visit the country.
The General Manager of Sheraton Abuja Hotel Mr Boris Bornman received a notable trophy on behalf of the Hotel as an honour for the Hotel’s contributory role in the advancement of Polo in Nigeria. The award was presented by the Tournament Umpire Marshal-Alhaji Dogarai.
General Manager Boris Bornman in his interview with the press described the Polo Tournament as a worthy event which not only created memorable experiences for the Polo enthusiasts, VIP’s, families and friends but equally enhanced Sports and Recreational activities for Nigerians while playing a role as a great Unifying Factor in the Country.
