Akwa Ibom dissolves management deal with Marriott, renames Le Meridien

le meridienAkwa State Government-owned hospitality property, Le Meridien Ibom Hotel and Golf Resort has dissolved its management agreement with the United States-based hotel chain, Marriott International, in a bid to return to local management of the facility. The brand will now be known as the Ibom Hotel and Golf Resort.

The hotel in a statement assured that the change would not affect the brand as it is ‘committed to delivering on its avowed promise to the public, which is standard and quality service with adherence to international best practice in hospitality business.’

The hotel, which has for some years now served as the home of Nigeria’s senior football team, Super Eagles, has, further retained some senior management staff under its previous Marriott agreement just as it has co-opted a few hospitality experts from other areas to strengthen the staff capacity for enhanced performance.

The new General Manager of the hotel is Ronald Stilting, a seasoned professional with hands – on experience in hospitality, boasting over 30 years of experience in hotel management in six African countries, including; Rwanda, Ghana, Liberia, Tanzania, Kenya and Nigeria, where he once headed Golden Tulip Essential Lagos Airport Hotel.
