SavedPicture-2016926195111.pngWorld’s biggest hotel firm, Marriott International, has announced a major re-organization of its 30 brands spread across the globe including those from its newly-acquired Starwood Hotels & Resorts and Protean Hotels.

Marriott explained, Tuesday, that the move is expected to help consumers sort through the plethora of choices according to price and experience.

Speaking to Bloomberg News, Marriott Global Brand Officer Tina Edmundson, who previously was Starwood’s Senior Vice President for Brand Operations, Luxury and Lifestyle, said the new two categories are; Classic and Distinctive.

Marriott International, this year, it would be recalled acquired the Starwood portfolios in a US$12 billion merger, which sees the former controlling Starwood’s brands such as Sheraton, Four Points and Le Meridien in Nigeria and other countries;  this, in addition to other hotel acquisitions like the Protea Hotels Group.

According to Edmundson, the two categories differentiate travel personas – the “classic” luxury seeker who might book at a Ritz-Carlton or St. Regis, versus the “distinctive” luxury traveller looking for a more boutique experience such as Le Meridien or Westin.

The company describes the Classic brands as those offering “time-honoured hospitality for the modern traveller”; the Distinctive brands are for “those who lean toward memorable experiences with a unique perspective.”
