Film Africa 2012, which takes place in London from November 1 to 11, will see over 70 African films showcased.

In addition to the screenings there will be Q&A sessions with filmmakers and workshops. The programme includes documentaries, feature films, animation and short films.

Some of the filmmakers attending include Nigeria’s Kunle Afolayan, Rwanda’s Kivu Ruhorahoza, David Gitonga from Kenya, Alain Gomis from Senegal, Kenya’s Hawa Essuman and many more.

According to the organisers, “Film Africa celebrates the wealth, diversity and quality of African cinema and African stories, thereby helping to challenge negative stereotypes about the continent. It does this by giving a London-wide platform to African and diaspora filmmakers and also to filmmakers who tell alternative stories about the continent.”

Films set to be screened include: South African animated feature Adventures in Zambezia, Nigerian-South African co-production Man On Ground, Kenya’s entry for the Best Foreign Language Oscar at the 85th Academy Awards Nairobi Half Life, inspirational documentary The Beautiful Game, Nigerian feature Maami, Burkinabe short The Godfather and South African feature film Uhlanga: The Mark.
