No fewer than 100 female wrestlers are participating in this year’s Kwete cultural festival of the Bachama Kingdom. The wrestling tournament is an annual festival that holds in Lamurde, Adamawa.

Mrs Josephine Zadok, the Chairman of the Contest’s Organising Committee, said the competition was designed to empower women through sporting activities.

“The tournament is to encourage young female athletes and the men to develop their talents, as well as promote unity among the people of the Bachama community,’’ she said.

Zadok, who is the wife of the Bachama traditional ruler, added that the wrestling competition was a veritable poverty-eradication tool, as it provided a means of livelihood for women of the community.

She said that at the end of the competition, prestigious prizes, including cars, motorcycles and electronic sets, would be given to winners in all categories.

Other activities at the Kwete cultural festival include traditional songs’ rendition and folklores’ competition, among others.
